NLRA04 Arctic Circle Aurora Trip - Alaska Railroad from Anchorage

The polar lights are a phenomenon that takes place all year round. But in summer, when the sun hardly sets or does not set at all, they are practically invisible. This is quite different in winter, when the Northern Lights put on a breathtaking show on dark, clear nights. Although the Aurora Borealis can also be seen in the cities, the best way to see the Northern Lights is far away from towns, especially the area around Fairbanks and the Arctic Circle are considered the strongholds. Join our Arctic Circle & Railroad combo tour and experience the famous northern arctic region above the Arctic Circle. Board the Alaska Winter Train in Anchorage and enjoy the winter wonderland of Alaska’s backcountry from the comfort of a warm railcar, complete with comfortable seats, large picture windows and onboard dining. Travel via Talkeetna and Denali National Park towards Fairbanks. During the winter month, Fairbanks hosts the World Ice Art Championship, exciting Sled Dog Races and a variety of winter carnival activities. The next day, follow the Dalton Highway, which has also become known to us through the "Ice Road Trucker" series, in the direction of the Arctic Circle. During the trip your guide will introduce you to the history of Alaska and the peculiarities of life in Alaska. Enjoy the impressive landscape of Central Alaska, such as the Yukon River, Finger Mountain or the Trans Alaska Pipeline and look out for moose, lynx and foxes that are at home here. Your guided tour includes the overnight in Coldfoot. The hotel is rustic by urban standards, the hotel is clean and each room has a private bath, a luxury in the wilderness. At night admire the natural spectacle of the aurora borealis with its colourful shining veils.

Remy, Australia: Just to tell you how happy we are after our northern lights viewing trip to Alaska. Our family enjoyed the wonderful railroad journey from Anchorage to Fairbanks and it is worth every second and every cent. The twelve hour trip was beautiful the entire time. We enjoyed great views of the Mt. Denali and we did have great views of the whole mountain range. Many people moved to the restaurant car, leaving space to look out the other side if something was interesting there. Everything about the trip to the Arctic Circle was fabulous. I can’t even express how interesting Coldfoot is. And what a bonus that we took the trip to see the Aurora, and were rewarded by a spectacular display. Everything about this tour was perfect. The staff in Coldfoot were welcoming and quirky ( consider who would choose to live with a population of 26 and weather that is often below -20 for months of the year. We loved them!
