BVAN01 Katmai – Brooks Falls Bear Viewing Day Tour from Anchorage

Watching bears in the wild is one of the most fascinating natural spectacles. Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park is a perfect place to see bears. There are almost 2000 brown bears in this area and the chance of seeing them is particularly high in July and September when the bears come to catch salmon on the fish rich river. One salmon after the other the skilled hunters fish from the river and often they only have to open their mouths to catch one of the jumping salmon. A real feast for the bears and a joy to watch. From Anchorage you fly to King Salmon or Kulik and continue by seaplane to Brooks Camp. From the lodge you can reach the spectacular viewing platforms in a few minutes, from where you have a perfect view of Brooks Falls and bears.

Sarah, NY: Our family extended our stay in Anchorage specifically to visit Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park. We flew on a floatplane out of Anchorage. The flight is long but enjoyable and we ended up having 4-5 hours in Katmai. Brooks Falls was a tremendous experience. The brown bears were actively feeding on salmon in the Falls and we could observe from a nearby platform. The park rangers were very helpful and informative. Check out one of the active webcams especially during the month of July. Truly one of the highlights of a great trip.
